Turkish president criticizes global inaction, reaffirms Ankara’s commitment to regional stability and peace
Recep Tayyip Erdogan also issued a pointed critique of the United Nations Security Council, calling it outdated and incapable of ensuring international justice.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared that “imperial policies have failed to resolve global crises” as he addressed the Fourth Antalya Diplomacy Forum, urging the international community to promote peace and justice in conflict-ridden regions, particularly in the Middle East.
Erdogan’s remarks, delivered on Friday, reflected Ankara’s broader diplomatic stance of prioritizing regional stability, denouncing occupation, and calling for multilateral dialogue as a solution to growing geopolitical tensions.
“A Region Torn by Power Struggles”
“Our region has suffered the heaviest toll from ongoing power struggles and proxy conflicts,” Erdogan said. “The ambitions of those seeking dominance have not ceased, and we remain determined to end the oppression of peoples throughout the region.”
He emphasized Turkey’s commitment to peace, asserting that the country has no territorial ambitions and seeks a future based on cooperation, not confrontation. “We have no designs on the land of any country. Our vision is for this region to become a hub of peace and development—not a theater of conflict.”
Criticism of the UN Security Council
Erdogan also issued a pointed critique of the United Nations Security Council, calling it outdated and incapable of ensuring international justice. “The world is greater than the five permanent members of the Security Council,” he said. “The inability to act effectively has enabled injustice to persist.”
In this context, the Turkish president voiced concern about the ongoing conflict in Gaza, highlighting the need for a just and lasting solution. While refraining from direct condemnation, Erdogan criticized the international community’s silence over what he called the “excessive use of force” in Gaza, warning that inaction only fuels further instability.
“A Diplomatic Solution is the Only Way Forward”
Turning to Syria, Erdogan reiterated Turkey’s long-standing position that the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity must be respected. He condemned efforts to destabilize Syria and Lebanon through cross-border strikes, warning that attempts to undermine regional stability would not go unanswered.
“If anyone tries to destabilize Syria further, they must be prepared to bear the consequences,” he warned, in a message aimed at preserving regional balance and discouraging unilateral military action.
Erdogan also stated that Turkey is committed to working constructively with regional governments, emphasizing the importance of de-escalation and inclusive governance in Syria. “What Syria needs is a path to peace—not more destruction,” he noted.
Promoting Dialogue Over Division
The Turkish leader concluded by reiterating Turkey’s dedication to advancing dialogue and cooperation. “We aim to send a message of peace to all nations,” Erdogan said. “Our commitment is to diplomacy, stability, and mutual respect. The future of our region must not be built on injustice or violence.”
The Antalya Diplomacy Forum, attended by leaders and diplomats from across the world, continues to serve as a platform for addressing global and regional challenges through dialogue rather than division—a goal Erdogan reaffirmed with clarity and urgency.
