Office for the Rescue of Abductees: 2,558 Yazidis Still Face an Uncertain Fate
On Sunday, March 2, 2025, the Office for the Rescue of Abducted Yazidis released statistics indicating that 2,558 individuals remain missing, facing an uncertain fate.

According to statistics based on sources accredited by the United Nations, the Yazidi population in Iraq was approximately 550,000 before the terrorist attack by ISIS on August 3, 2014. Currently, 135,860 Yazidi displaced persons reside in camps within the Kurdistan Region, while an additional 189,337 are scattered across various locations within the region. The number of Yazidi martyrs has exceeded 5,000, with 2,745 orphans recorded.
So far, 93 mass graves have been discovered in Shingal (Sinjar), in addition to dozens of sites containing individual graves. The number of survivors extracted from these mass graves stands at 29.
ISIS also destroyed 68 religious shrines and sanctuaries, according to the report, which further states that approximately 120,000 Yazidis have migrated out of the country.
The report continues: "The total number of abductees was 6,417, including 3,548 females and 2,869 males." Of these, 3,585 have been rescued from ISIS captivity, comprising 1,211 women, 339 men, 1,074 girls, and 961 boys.
Furthermore, the number of abductees who were executed by ISIS and whose remains were retrieved from mass graves and returned to their families stands at 274, including 37 females and 237 males. The number of individuals still missing is 2,558, including 1,225 females and 1,333 males.
