Italian Ambassador Highlights Business Expansion in Kurdistan Region

Italy’s Ambassador to Iraq, Nicola Fontana, has emphasized his country’s commitment to expanding business opportunities in the Kurdistan Region, stating that Italian companies are eager to invest across multiple sectors.

In an exclusive interview with Kurdistan24, Fontana expressed his enthusiasm about his visit to Erbil, highlighting Italy’s strong and longstanding ties with the Kurdistan Region. "I am very pleased to be in Erbil for a few days. We share a unique relationship with the Kurdistan Region, and we are keen to strengthen it further. That’s why I visit from Baghdad to Kurdistan every two months, as I believe we have great opportunities for collaboration," he said.

The ambassador noted that several Italian companies are already operating in Erbil and Sulaimani provinces, mainly in the trade sector. "We are pleased to see a high demand for Italian products, especially in fashion, household goods, and industrial equipment," he stated.

Fontana also pointed to potential investment opportunities beyond trade, saying that Italian firms may expand their presence in healthcare, construction, and environmental sustainability. "Italy aims to establish a deeper economic footprint in the Kurdistan Region," he affirmed.

Italy has maintained strong diplomatic and economic relations with both Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. The Kurdistan Region, known for its strategic location and business-friendly policies, has been attracting international investors, and Italy is positioning itself as a key player in its economic development.

As interest from Italian companies grows, increased cooperation between the Kurdistan Regional Government and Italy could further enhance trade, investment, and development projects, fostering a long-term economic partnership.
